Addiction & Recovery

The heroin epidemic is real.  Broome County suffers far too many casualties each & every day.  No family goes untouched.

I’ve been working diligently on this problem through treatment, education, and targeted grants.

Chair of Health & Human Services Committee

In January 2019, I became chair of the Broome County Health & Human Services Committee, which provides oversight to some of the County's most important departments, including Willow Point Nursing Home, Department of Social Services, the Health Department, and the Office for Aging.

BDC Drug Treatment Center

The opening of Syracuse Behavioral Health's addiction rehabilitation center is a game-changer in local recovery efforts.  Broome County is blessed to have had a large facility, like BDC,  ready to be outfitted for this purpose.

Maine-Endwell Substance Abuse Education Events

Educating our youth and informing their parents is a key step in preventing new addicts.  That's why I've been partnered with Maine-Endwell schools for the last four years - to bring them a program of events that underscore the dangers of substance abuse.  The first three years were focused on opioids and the fourth year targeted vaping.

Opioid Addiction Mini-Grants

Opioid Abuse Mini-Grants

The opioid epidemic is multifaceted and will not be solved through traditional approaches alone.  Broome County's mini-grants program provides funds to smaller-scale, grassroots organizations so that they can bring innovative new ideas to addiction & recovery.
