Bipartisanship in Action
2020 was an unprecedented year. Between the coronavirus, the subsequent quarantine, and the extreme political environment, it was extremely challenging.
Based on the behavior of our federal officials, and those running for political office at that level, you’d think that democrats & republicans can’t possibly get along. However, that’s just not true!
In fact, as a member of the Broome County Legislature, I’m happy to report that 2020 was a year of unity. Faced with unprecedented problems, our democratic & republican legislators came together and passed more than 500 resolutions without one partisan (party-line) disagreement.
We did this by focusing on what’s important: our shared community. We didn’t let national issues divide us. We stood with our county executive through the dark days of the early quarantine and assured him that we had his back. When we saw differences arise, we talked at great length and found a way through that we could all agree upon. In short, we respected each other and put Broome County first.
So, next time you watch the circus of national-level politicians insulting one another, take heart in the fact that your local government doesn’t act like that. We do our best work together and to bring tangible results to our shared community.
