Fentanyl AwAreness Forum with Maine-Endwell Schools

Thank you to Maine-Endwell Schools, BOCES, Broome County Health Department, and Broome County Mental Health Department for working together with Superintendent VanFossen and myself to make this community forum happen.

We had about 25 people in the auditorium and another 25 on Zoom.  If even one of these people avoids the risk of illicit  drugs because of this forum, then we feel we accomplished our goal.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. As of 2022, fentanyl was responsible for at least 50% of all drug overdose deaths.

What's so insidious about Fentanyl is that it's added to many other illicit drugs by drug dealers to increase the addictiveness.  And while that's terrible in and of itself, the fact that it often "clumps" during manufacture, means that some illicit drugs get more fentanyl than others, thus making them randomly deadly.  As a result, thousands of people are dying annually from fentanyl poisoning contained in many other drugs.

Dead on Arrival by Dominic Tierno is a powerful 22 minute movie about the fentanyl epidemic gripping our nation. Watch it on YouTube.
