Broome County's First Solar Farm
I'm happy to annouce that Broome County has entered into an agreement with SolarCity to build a 4 megawatt solar farm on vacant land at the Broome Country Landfill.
Broome County will receive electricity at a greatly reduced rate for the next 20 years. The expected annual savings is $233,228 - for a total expected 20-year savings of $5,387,780. SolarCity will build & maintain the solar farm, thus reducing our risk.
This agreement took some work. Solar farms, like this, cannot be built just anywhere. Both the land and the electrical infrastructure around it must be appropriate. In fact, the County deeply investigated four locations before picking on this one. Thanks to everyone involved for carrying this through.
I'm an advocate of renewables when & where they make economic sense. It's good to see that happening more & more often.
