Year Round Farmer's Market
Agriculture is one of Broome County's largest industries. Hundreds of local farms employs thousands of people and provide millions of pounds of food to the world.
Every summer a network of local farmer's markets spring up to help farmer's sell their crops. However, many local people find it hard to reach these farmer's markets, because of limited days, limited hours, and the short span in which they operate. As a result, many local people find it hard to get their hands on local food.
Meanwhile, our farmers and other local producers would like to have an outlet for their year-round products, such as honey, maple syrup, canned fruits & veggies, plus locally-made dog treats, hand & face lotions, etc.
That's why I'm extremely happy to announce that Broome County has partnered with Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) to open the first year-round regional farmers market in our community!
Located at 840 Upper Front Street in Binghamton, the new facility includes a large market area and a commercial kitchen for farmer's to use for pickling, canning, etc.
The commercial kitchen is the hidden gem. Through it, local farmers will be able to share a commercial-grade facility for canning, pickling, and gentle-processing of food. This will allow them to continue making money from their harvest throughout the year.
