Public Hearings
Public hearings are an important part of vetting a potential law. Running these meetings at accessible hours is crucial to receiving worthwhile feedback. Therefore, we're making it easier to attend public hearings by mandating that all public hearings must occur at 5:00pm or later.
As you can see in Local Law No 1 of 2015 (above), "All public hearings held by the County Legislature, the County Executive, or any agency or department of the County of Broome must be held no earlier than 5:00 PM."
It's hard to believe, but many important meetings were being held in the middle of the day! This made it hard for many, gainfully-employed, tax-paying citizens to attend them. As a result, we weren't hearing from some of our most important constituents. This is long over-due and I'm happy to vote for it.
