Vaping 101
A Conversation Around the Topic of Youth Vaping
Event was held Wednesday, February 12, 5:15 - 7:30
at M-E Middle School Auditorium

American teens are vaping in alarming numbers! A recent NIH study finds that nearly 2 in 5 students in 12th grade report vaping within the past year.
Vaping poses serious and avoidable health risks. Exposure to nicotine during youth can lead to addiction and cause long-term harm to brain development. The vapor can also contain toxins (including ones that cause cancer) and tiny particles that are harmful when breathed in.
I'm proud to have once again be partnered with Maine-Endwell Schools to bring a highly-relevant substance abuse topic to our community.

Another great event at Maine-Endwell Middle School! This year's event focused on the explosion of vaping and the health hazards associated with it. THANKS to Sharon Fischer & Beth Smalt of Tobacoo Free Broome, Amanda Tolentino from Family Enrichment Network, SRO Bob Stapleton, ME superintendent Jason Van Fossen and his assistants (including Principle Otis and Brenda Potsko), for making this happen. In these photos you'll see the Hidden Mischief room, an informational table run by Tobacco Free Broome, and then the presentation with Sharon, Jason, Bob, and Amanda.
Event Schedule:
5:30 - 6:20 Hidden Mischief Room
Be part of an eye-opening tour through a lifelike teenage bedroom concealing substance abuse contraband. For parents and educators only.
|
5:30 - 6:30 Refreshments and Movies
While parents are exploring the Hidden Mischief Room, we'll be serving pizza & drinks and showing several short, but moving, YouTube videos about teenage vaping and more.
|
6:30 Presentation
Short presentations by both Broome County Health Department's Tobacco Free Broome & Tioga, and The Family & Children’s Society of Broome County. Both of these organizations are on the frontline of teenage substance abuse.
|
7:00 Question & Answer
Bring your questions and ask experts.
|
7:30 Conclusion
We intend to finish at 7:30, so you can get home to your family!

Free & Open to the Public
Naturally this program targeted students, parents, and their families, but it's truly a topic for everyone. Vaping knows no boundaries. I see people of all ages, races, genders, and social situations doing it. Thank you for joining us!
